California Friendly® Garden Contest
UCCE Master Gardeners of OC Support Garden Contest
Organizers of the California Friendly® Garden Contest are hoping to raise public awareness about water conservation by showcasing the most colorful and water efficient home gardens in Orange County.

The county-wide contest, which runs from Feb. 1 until May 16, is being spearheaded by Roger’s Gardens, a retail home and garden center that is a leading advocate of sustainable, eco-friendly and low resource gardening.

The California Friendly® Garden Contest is open to all residents of Orange
County with a front-yard garden that has been established at least one month. The ideal garden is one that features smart, sustainable landscaping; colorful and less thirsty plants; and efficient irrigation. Entries are judged by an all-star panel of experts based on:

    * Aesthetic beauty
    * Low-water plants
    * Irrigation efficiency
    * Good maintenance
    * Zero run-off
    * Organic principles
    * Reduction of green waste

The grand prize “Best in Orange County” winner will receive $2,500, a WeatherTRAK irrigation controller, a framed certificate and an engraved garden plaque. The top garden will be selected from five division winners, each of whom will be awarded $500 and a certificate in one of these categories: Best Curb Appeal, Best Creative Use of Plants, Best Water Efficiency, Best Native Plant Garden and Best Do-It-Yourself Garden.
